Political correctness has destroyed American Dream for Chinese immigrants

On my second day after arriving in Cleveland, Oh. U.S.A., I was struck in the back of the head by a young black woman on the bus. The attack was not serious, but provocative. She claimed the assault was intentional, saying, “Because your skin is lighter than mine!” I stood there confused and shocked.
She kept repeating her words and hit me again. I was too scared to say anything with my limited English-speaking skills. The bus had many African-American passengers, but nobody stood up to rescue me. As the bus began to drive away, I couldn’t get off, since I would be lost in the streets on a freezing snowy evening. I felt helpless as a tiny Chinese young woman coming to a new country. Several other incidents happened later on, which had dampened my impression of America.
In my first semester at graduate school, I met another Chinese woman and Jewish woman to visit an NGO (non-government organization) in downtown Cleveland for an interview assigned by our professor.
The Jewish classmate offered to give us a ride to where the Chinese woman had parked her car, which was just a five minutes’ walk. My Chinese friend said, “Thanks, we can just walk there.”
But the Jewish woman said, “It’s not safe here. You guys are better off staying in the car.” She explained with a calm expression as if it was her daily routine.
We both felt frightened, realizing we could become victims of a violence even on a bright sunny afternoon. My Chinese classmate’s car was parked by a Chinese store. So ever since then, I only go to that neighborhood whenever my husband accompanies me.
Accordingly, I have to keep alert at all times, which is a part of American life, while Americans have gotten used to it.
In the US, Asians are frequently the targets of crime and not treated fairly at schools and government organizations. Asians have been victimized political correctness in this country.
Several years ago, a middle-aged Chinese man in Cleveland was murdered by a young African-American male when he delivered Chinese food to a poor neighborhood. He simply stated the price when the criminal shot him for no apparent reason. The criminal was only sentenced to 18 years in prison. Similar cases have occurred in California and Florida.
The criminal assailants act like it’s a game, seemingly for fun, revenge, anger, or for nothing. At first, I was only afraid to go out by myself to downtown Cleveland until I received a security alert email from the university saying a male student was robbed in the classroom. So unless it’s necessary, I won’t go out in public.
The American mainstream media rarely covers Black on Asian crimes, which is not only terrible in Cleveland, but also in other major cities, such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City.
Nevertheless, once a black person is shot by White or Asian cops, the leftist media will report the story immediately on a large scale.
In the U.S., the household income of Asians is the highest among all races. We Asians are responsible taxpayers, and our property is kept safe and clean. But for Asians and our property, we have become the targets of ‘Black Lives Matter’ violence.
Cops don’t care as much as they do for Whites. The mainstream media stays silent. How come Asian taxpayers cannot get equal protections from the police?
Perhaps one reason is that the Asian population is small in America, so our voice is not loud. Some corrupt politicians, such as former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, exploit minority communities only for votes.
Apparently, ethnic groups in the US with larger populations can grab more attention from politicians. The politicians, police, and media avoid exposing the Black on Asian violence issue, since they don’t want the Black community angry at them, since it could impact election results.
Consequently, in some big cities, the Chinese have established local Chinese gun associations, teaching new immigrants how to purchase and shoot guns to protect themselves. However, living in a place of crime causes much mental anguish, which drains our energy.
Due to a lack of security and after many Chinese have experienced reverse racial discrimination, including Affirmative Action in college admissions, glass ceilings in work places, some Chinese have come to the conclusion that America is not so attractive anymore.
Additionally, more Chinese companies can provide better job offers than American companies, so many Chinese expats in the US are leaving the country and returning to their homeland.
The low whispers of Asians’ voices mean that high-tech skill workers, who are of Asian descent, will depart from US. If the next U.S. President will be Hillary Clinton, who only cares about her votes instead of the national interests, then the Chinese in America are likely to go back home to fulfill the Chinese Dream and escape the American Nightmare.
